In a bold move, Duts Design was commissioned by Beijing Jinzhao Real Estate Development Co. to revamp a once-ordinary office building on Chaowai Street into a dynamic hub for businesses, retail, and exhibitions. Spanning 5,000 square meters, this project is a cornerstone of a broader urban renewal initiative aimed at revitalizing the area into a vibrant and walkable center for innovation.
As you approach the Urban Innovation Centre, the skyscraper’s striking floor-to-ceiling glass façade commands attention, reflecting the city’s bustling energy. The spacious lobby, featuring a dramatic double-height ceiling, creates an inviting atmosphere. The highlight of this entrance is a captivating perforated plate ‘canopy’ that floats above, creating an intriguing interplay of light and shadow. This element not only serves as a design feature but also acts as a bridge between the center’s various functions, seamlessly connecting the entrance to office spaces and shopping areas.
Duts Design’s approach to the renovation employs what they call a ‘vertical innovation canyon,’ a concept that emphasizes connectivity and collaboration. The focal point of this strategy is a bold red staircase that serves as both a structural and visual anchor within the space.
