The world of Alina Abegg, a visionary jewelry designer, merges fantasy with reality, mirrored in her Berlin apartment, which doubles as a showroom. Nestled in Charlottenburg, this 1,800-square-foot abode offers a glimpse into her whimsical yet sophisticated universe. Alina, who has called Berlin home since 2017, invited us into this creative space where inspiration thrives. With vivid colors and eclectic décor, the apartment becomes a canvas echoing her vibrant, playful jewelry pieces, like her signature Alien Ring.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Architect: Irina Kromayer and Etienne Descloux
Interior Designer: Marsha Abegg
Location: Charlottenburg, Berlin
Design Element: Custom-made installations
Notable Color: Apple green inspired by chrysoprase

Alina’s apartment exudes warmth and eclectic charm, crucial for enduring Berlin’s lengthy gray winters. The design embodies vibrant energy, achieved through daring color choices like the chrysoprase-inspired apple green in the kitchen, reflecting her spirited and gentle nature. Her interior features pieces that tell stories, be they family heirlooms or custom designs, blending nostalgia with contemporary creativity. The quirky, cozy atmosphere is intentional, offering a space that balances exaggeration and functionality.

Her journey to Berlin was influenced by familial connections and relationships, having grown up amidst the diverse cultures of Germany, Switzerland, and London. Although a relationship initially spurred her move, Berlin’s allure captivated her, prompting her to remain. Alongside her sister, an interior designer, and an architectural team, Alina curated the apartment’s aesthetic, merging her unique vision with their expertise. This collaboration resulted in innovative installations, such as a banquette that flexibly transforms into a guest bed.

A standout feature of Alina’s home is the eat-in kitchen, a hub of activity and sociable engagement. This space, open and inviting, is where she spends the majority of her time, whether working, cooking, or relaxing with friends. It represents the heart of her apartment, fostering connection and creativity. Despite the potential challenges of intertwining her home and professional showroom, Alina finds joy in her work, rooted in a passion that transcends traditional boundaries.

Alina’s enthusiasm for interior design is deeply personal, influenced by her family’s approach to transforming homes into remarkable spaces. Her upbringing involved frequent moves, instilling in her an appreciation for detail and creative expression. This background laid the foundation for her current design philosophy, centered around collecting and repurposing items to craft personalized environments. For Alina, these endeavors resonate with the imaginative spirit of her past and continue to inspire her present.

In her jewelry and home’s décor, Alina Abegg weaves stories and memories, transforming tangible objects into conduits of emotion. Her creations, rooted in childhood wonder and nostalgia, seek to evoke joy and curiosity. This ethos, much like her spontaneously curated home, reflects a fluid journey of discovery and personal authenticity. With each piece and design choice, Alina encourages embracing one’s intrinsic quirks and passions, asserting that true fulfillment lies in the courage to remain true to oneself.
