In the culturally rich city of Lviv, Ukraine, lies the KM Home, a meticulously designed apartment by Karina Mayer and Danylo Koshulynskyy, co-founders of the interior studio KOSHULYNSKYY & MAYER. Spanning just over 1,000 square feet, this residence is a testament to the couple’s commitment to tailor their living space to their lifestyle — prioritizing comfort, efficiency, and modern elegance, while diverging from the standard developer’s layouts.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Architect: Danylo Koshulynskyy
Designer: Karina Mayer
Location: Lviv, Ukraine
Art Featured: Andriy Voznytsky and Lesya Panchyshyn
Interior Studio: KOSHULYNSKYY & MAYER

The initial configuration of the apartment, with its combined kitchen and living area paired with three cramped bedrooms, underwent a significant transformation. Devoting attention to function and comfort, Mayer and Koshulynskyy redesigned the space to feature two generous bedrooms with dual dressing rooms, alongside practical amenities such as a dedicated laundry area and two stylish bathrooms. The result was an optimized living environment that enhances everyday life, allowing for a blend of personal expression and functionality.

Art is an integral theme throughout KM Home, beginning at the entrance with “Renaissance,” a striking piece by Ukrainian artist Andriy Voznytsky. The home’s layout was crafted to eliminate corridors, a common architectural element deemed unnecessary by Mayer, which instead allowed for a more natural flow of movement. This design choice also prevented areas that could become cluttered, reinforcing the minimalist aesthetic that characterizes the interior.

The core of the apartment is the open-plan kitchen and living room. This space is orchestrated to foster both relaxation and interaction, dominating with sleek eucalyptus wood panels and minimalist design principles. Integrated Miele appliances and a dining table fashioned from Calacatta marble exemplify the subtle luxury and practical elegance that underline the home’s design philosophy. The decision to forgo curtains permits the natural splendor outside to animate the interior, blurring the lines between indoors and outdoors.

In the private retreat of the primary bedroom, sophistication abounds. The adjoining en-suite bathroom features luxurious elements reminiscent of high-end hotels with fixtures from Hansgrohe and Catalano, and a striking Rosso Imperiale marble sink. The secondary bathroom is equally refined, showcasing a luminous Patagonia marble washbasin. Further allowing for versatility, a multifunctional room serves primarily as Koshulynskyy’s office but can seamlessly transition to a nursery or an additional living area.

Completed in just six and a half months, KM Home is the embodiment of modern minimalism. Each design decision was carefully made to ensure that every corner of the space serves a purposeful function. The home is a quintessential reflection of the couple’s innovative vision — creating an environment that evolves with them and continuously nurtures the soul.
