Designer MA Allen took on the task of transforming this room into a vibrant retreat, capturing the essence of Zelda’s artistic flair. The botanical motif that adorns the walls and ceiling sets the tone, wrapping the room in a refreshing, lively ambiance. The pattern flows seamlessly from wall to ceiling, creating a visual trick that enhances the room’s dimensions.

Functionality meets aesthetics as the space doubles up as a game room and a cozy spot for social gatherings. The alcove, featuring a bespoke bench that also serves as a daybed, speaks to the room’s careful fusion of both new and vintage elements. Allen worked closely with a local millworker to craft the built-in look, finishing it with fine details that reflect the room’s overall theme of collected charm.

The furniture selection is as thoughtful as the design itself—a red and pink striped chair catches the eye immediately, while stools with cheeky animal prints add a touch of whimsy. The daybed, with its custom cushion, offers both style and comfort for guests, whether they’re staying overnight or just stopping by for a game of cards.

Art plays a central role in this space. A portrait of Zelda Fitzgerald anchors the gallery wall, surrounded by works from artists like Mandy Trimble and Jess Franks. These pieces, curated with precision, reflect the eclectic yet harmonious style that runs throughout the room.

Even the smallest details speak to the ingenuity of the design. A former closet has been converted into a sleek dry bar, featuring a simple console paired with a basket for storing liquor. Above, a Villa & House mirror adds depth while reflecting a commissioned collage dedicated to Zelda herself.

The room’s collected aesthetic extends to every corner, balancing antiques with modern bespoke pieces. A vintage Turkish rug layered over a Fibreworks rug adds warmth to the floor, while a custom daybed cushion invites guests to relax. Petite stools by Lee Industries make it easy to host multiple people for gaming sessions, ensuring that both style and utility are in perfect harmony.

This space, defined by its layers of texture, color, and nostalgia, serves as a tribute to Zelda Fitzgerald’s vibrant legacy. It’s a game room you won’t want to leave—a space as spirited and unique as the woman who inspired it.
