Nestled a short distance from the town of Woodstock, New York, lies a Dutch Colonial-style home that Melissa Anderson of OAD Interiors has transformed into a serene sanctuary. Built in the early 1900s and set on a sprawling 20-acre property that was formerly a bustling farm, the home’s enchanting natural setting captivated both Anderson and her clients. Tasked with refreshing the interiors to align with its magical landscape, Anderson embarked on a creative journey to craft an imaginative and cohesive living space.

PROJECT OVERVIEW
Designer: Melissa Anderson
Location: Woodstock, New York
Furniture: Michael Robbins, RH, Michael Javidi
Surfaces: ABC Stone, Riad Tile
Lighting: Foscarini, Georg Baldele
The heart of the renovation focused on opening up the home’s interior to embrace the surrounding vistas and natural light. Anderson made significant updates in the kitchen, replacing limited amenities with modern features like a skylight above the island and a row of expansive windows. The new layout allows the homeowners to savor the outdoors while cooking, with an unobstructed view from the kitchen’s updated Lacanche range. With Parisian-inspired tile floors seamlessly connecting the kitchen and dining areas, the design evokes a sense of continuity and sophistication.

In the dining room, Anderson captures an alfresco dining ambiance using South Pacific island-themed wallpaper by Ananbô. This choice mirrors the expansive nature just outside, offering a balance of refinement and escapism. The use of sleek, modern furniture adds to the airy atmosphere, while elements such as Riad Tile flooring and pendant lights by Foscarini subtly enhance the room’s visual appeal. The dining area becomes a harmonious extension of the exterior, fostering an intimate connection with nature.

In the living room, the home’s original architectural elements, such as beams, built-ins, and a grand stone fireplace, were revitalized with thoughtful touches. Anderson opted for a limewash finish on the fireplace surround, imbuing the space with a sense of tranquility and warmth. A Zen-like atmosphere prevails, complemented by carefully chosen furnishings like a vintage coffee table and a modern sectional sofa. This room serves as a cozy retreat for reading and reflection, underlining the restorative power of Anderson’s approach.

The primary bedroom embodies a “glamping” spirit, integrating earth tones and natural materials to forge a link with the outdoors. Anderson expanded window footprints to capture sweeping views of the landscape, creating a serene escape. The addition of a suspended fireplace, ethereal lighting, and locally sourced reclaimed wood elements further enhances the room’s connection to nature. A thoughtfully placed abstract horizon print draws inspiration from the surrounding environment, reaffirming the home’s seamless indoor-outdoor flow.

Concluding in tranquility, the primary bathroom is a study in modern serenity. Sage green tiles interspersed with black accents establish a calming yet contemporary atmosphere, complemented by open glass partitions that allow unimpeded views from the bedroom. The backyard continues this theme of harmonious design, where a naturally shaped pool and rustic furnishings maintain a focus on the breathtaking scenery. By prioritizing simplicity and functionality, Anderson ensures that the natural beauty of Woodstock remains the centerpiece of this revitalized home.
